disclaimer: i am an amateur painter.
disclaimer 2: by the end my pointer finger became so numb from holding down the spray paint nozzle that I was spray painting like i had Parkinson's! PC? no... but it gives you the complete picture, yes?
So - Here are some of the projects I have been working on around Casa de Mathis:
Updated Bar Stools
below is our kitchen with our natural wood bar stools:
I decided I wanted to paint them a color to play off the different fiestaware pieces I have in the eat-in area. So, after deciding on red I bought Krylon Banner Red spray paint and got going. I was about half way through when I ran out of paint. Soooo Bret and I went to Wal-mart to buy another can... where they were out. Soooo we went to the other Wal-mart across town where we found the last can hiding behind some other cans! (thank goodness)
So, got back home and continued spraying the bar stools. Well, when I was done with that can, it was obvious I needed some more paint. Back to wal-mart I went, again, to find a color as close as possible to the Banner Red since I already knew my red was sold out at both wal-marts - After finding a purely outdoor version of the same color, I came back home and tadah!
Red bar stools! I like, I like!
Thrift Store Beauty
My favorite, favorite, FAVORITE task I took on was upgrading a chair I bought for $8.00 at our Hospice Thrift Store.
Here you see the chair. Solid wood. Ugly cushion.
First I removed the seat and picked out a green
(the first green I got half way through, ran out, had to go buy more, they didn't have my color so I had to pick a different green)
Here is the finished chair - sans seat - as it dried outside. The color I went with was Krylon Pistachio
Lastly, with the assistance of Bret, the seat was recovered and installed back on my $8 chair.
Tadah!!
Matching Thrift Store Beauty Dos
Next, for a little fun project, I decided to re-do a $4 frame from the thrift store to match!
Before:
and, After!
Yellow Kitchen
Last weekend I repainted a wall in our eat-in/kitchen area.
Before:
After!
The yellow is the color of the rest of our kitchen (you can see it in the first picture with the original bar stools)
I think the yellow really brightens up the area! I even caught June staring at it after I finished painting - Even her little color blind eyes could tell something was different!
On top of all that - I am also working on a bookshelf and a wreath that I hope to get done this week. I have plans to paint a bed as well but at this moment, I am sitting on my couch recooping from my 7 mile run this morning and cooking tacos for my family.
Until next time - I will remain a happy girl with my home improvements!
