Alright BBs - I need your assistance please. Well, I don't. My friend Paige does. She is trying to decide if she is ready to jump on this little band wagon of ours and put all of her business out for the world to see. So, to help her along in the process I told her to write a guest post (I have always wanted someone to do that for me - any other takers?!) and to ask you guys, my very helpful and very opinionated friends, what yall think about it.
So, without further stalling... Here is Paige:
To write or not to write? That isn’t really my question. I will write no matter what. Where I write is the real question here for me. I love to write as a matter of fact. I love to write emails, I love to write small notes, long letters, I even want to eventually write books…I just don’t know if a blog is the spot for me or not.
My new friend Katie here is confident that I could write a successful blog. She is sweet though, and only reads what I send her during our boring days at work. Which leads me to my interest in a blog. Well, Katie and our boring days at work. I have plenty of time on my hands now to write a daily post. My fear with a blog is that I will be one of those “TMI!!!!” bloggers that you always hear about or unfortunately come across yourself. When I write I like to talk about real happenings. My day to day life is a soap opera. People don’t believe me until they start to listen to me tell stories. Again another fear here in writing is that I won’t be able to get across in my stories what I get across telling them aloud and in person.
What do you all think? Do you encourage writing a blog? If so, what is yours about? How do you keep it from being TMI, any questions you ask yourself before you post something? I think that I will ask “would I want to know this about my brother?” and if the answer is no…I won’t post it…but maybe you have better suggestions. How do I capture who I really am only in words, without my story telling abilities? Also, would you read a blog about a 23 year old’s daily journeys. Sure some days aren’t as dramatic as others, but some are out of this world. What do you think? Help me out please!
So come on ladies! Be the blogging friends I know yall are and leave lots and lots and LOTS of feedback and comments please. For me. Oh yes, and Paige too of course!

Yes!! Start a blog!
I love to read about lives of all different types of people. Mothers, daughters, students, workers. Crafters, photographers, writers. People with whom I have a lot in common, and people who live lives so completely different than mine that I have no clue what their world is like, except through their blog.
What matters in blogging, is that first: you blog for yourself! And if other people read it, then that is great! And it is quite likely that other people will read it. It really is a great forum to document and I like it better than journal-ing for a lot of reasons, because you get feedback!
And re: the TMI question: if you are anonymous, I'm not sure that it would matter. But if you are out in the open, then thinking about things like "Would this embarrass so-and-so?" is perfect because it requires you to filter. Also, with a post you think might be TMI, you can always just schedule it, re-think it, and then post after you have given it some time.
Just some ideas. Hope to be reading your new blog soon friend of Katie.
Yay Paige!! Be careful! Once you start, you may actually think you are busy at work...busy writing a blog! I would love to read your blog. We just started ours a few weeks ago as well! Just do it!!
Well honestly, I don't necessarily believe you should start a blog just because others will read it. It kind of sounds that's where you're going? I'm not sure.
But, if you have a genuine love to write, recap stories in your life, and can figure out a way to put your 'storytelling' abilities into words...then do it. If you're doing it soley for other people, then I don't believe thats a good enough reason. Just my personal opinion!
I blogged for 8 years without anyone reading, and thats where I really developed as a writer and grew to just adore it.
I'd say, do it when you're ready and not when you feel like you're being pushed into it. {not that i'm saying katie is pushing you...i love her! but hopefully you get my point..}
I would say go for it! I have been reading blogs for about a year and started my own in December. I just love being able to connect with other people who are going through the same things as you and some who are on a completely different level thank you.
The feedback is nice because it makes you realize, "Okay...I'm not crazy...other people feel this way too, etc."
As for TMI I guess it just depends how open you want to be. There are some things I would like to post and then I think about how my Fiance, my Sister, my Future Mother-in-Law, and Future Sister-in-Law read it and the thought stops there haha! For that reason, I almost wish I wouldn't have told them all about it...but the past is the past so now I just keep that in mind when posting.
Good luck!
We love soap opera TMI bloggers! Those are the best kinds! Blogging is a really great way to make the hours go by while sitting at a desk! Do it!
I like blogging because it's like a journal for me and helps me remember things better. Also, I like reading blogs where there's lots of info about what's going on in the bloggers life. Makes me feel like I know them!
Go for it!
Do it!!!
DO IT PAIGE!!!
And don't worry about TMI. Blog whatever is on your mind...that's what its here for. You shouldn't hold back...and people who complain can just leave (though I doubts there will be anyone that complains:). Its great to learn more about people across this world through blogs. Connections are made its soon everyone feels like family. I loves it. So please, come join us...and when you do, come find me so I can follow!!
Yes time a bajillion, Paige!
I started blogging just to capture my memories and daily life. It will be neat to look back at it when I get older and remember all that I was doing. However, no one that knows me already knows that I blog. I know that one day I will have the nerve to tell them, just not yet though. I am sure there are things that I blog about all of the time that people are thinking... why did she just say that, but it is my virtual journal. I will for sure read! I think Katie is wonderful and know that you are just as amazing!
Yes! Start a blog!
I love reading about people's lives, and it is such a great way to vent and get some feedback from nonbiased people.
Regarding your TMI question. My biggest blogging flaw is holding back a lot and I'm really working on that. But I ask myself if the information I'm releasing would be harmful to my job, friends, or family. If the answer is yes, I don't write about it. I also think about my audience. I know a lot of my readers in real life, and often want to vent about them, but feel like I can't because they will read my thoughts and probably stir up more drama than it is worth. So I usually don't talk about those things, or really generalize them so that people don't know specifics.
Try it out, you'll find your style! I'll definitely follow! :)
Give it a try! I'm sure you'll love it! :)
Don't worry about others so much..it's just nice to get your ideas and thoughts down on "paper" sometimes. If people read, it just adds to the fun! There are a lot of wonderful bloggers out there who give amazing advice as well!!
Paige - you should definitely start a blog. It's a fun way to express yourself and reflect on ironic, funny, touching, every-day happenings. AND you might really help or intrigue someone. I was recently talked into starting a blog, and I love it. I even have 8 followers. I mean, I'm really big time!
Good Luck!
Hello -- to write!!!!!!! If we can do it, YOU can do it!!!!!!! Get to work Katie starting it for her :)
I would def. 100% say yes. Prior to starting my blog I was the SAME way...but I would never, could never take back all I know now. It is amazing...I have meet so many wonderful people and learned so much about myself...
If you feel like writing, do it! I blogged for a long time w/zero readers (minus my mom and dad) but now I love it and have met a TON of people through blog world! So fun!!
My blog is about my life, and really there are many TMI moments! That's part of the fun of it! Don't worry about what other people will think about your blog, it's YOURS and honestly, when you are honest, people love it! i know I do!!
If you are worried about what people will think, stay anonymous and don't tell Real life friends about your blog. As you get more comfortable with it then you may feel like you want people to know about your blog. Thats what i did and now a TON of my real life friends read it!
If i were to go off my own experience, I'd say HECK YES! GET BLOGGING WOMAN! but make that decision for yourself. and , you can always start one and see how it goes you aren't signing a lifetime contract with this! :)
YAYAY! Do it you'll become addicted, haha!
Yay start a blog Paige!
DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!
