I have always known that my views are a little more on the liberal side than most people surrounding me. I live in Texas for goodness sakes. But even with that being said, I still do not understand how people can be so hateful for gay men and women that are wanting to get married. They are in love. They want to be able to express their love in the same way with the same rights that the rest of us have. People believe gay marriage destroys the sanctity of marriage. Please explain to me how that is so. Men and Women have been getting married from the beginning of time and the divorce rate is how high?! Does divorce in itself not destroy the sanctity of marriage. People have their reasons and I am not bashing divorce but the point can be made that straight married couples have had their fair share in destroying marriage so how can they argue that gay marriage alone will be the down fall?
Many of the reasons offered for opposing gay marriage are based on the assumption that gays have a choice in who they can feel attracted to, and the reality is quite different. Many people actually believe that gays could simply choose to be heterosexual if they wished. But the reality is that very few do have a choice -- any more than very few heterosexuals could choose which sex to find themselves attracted to.
Additionally, many people continue to believe that homosexuality is about nothing but sex, considering it to be merely a sexual perversion. The reality is that homosexuality is multidimensional, and is much more about love and affection than it is about sex. And this is what gay relationships are based on -- mutual attraction, love and affection. Sex is a means of expressing that love, just the same as it is for heterosexuals. Being gay is much more profound than simply a sexual relationship; being gay is part of that person's core identity, and goes right the very center of his being. It's like being black in a society of whites, or a blonde European in a nation of black-haired Asians. Yes, being gay is just that profound to the person who is. This is something that few heterosexuals can understand unless they are a minority themselves.
Anti gay marriage groups often argue that allowing gay marriage, which is against the teachings of many churches, is an impediment of religious freedom. This argument comes from a misunderstanding of marriage and, indeed, the law. In order to guarantee freedom of belief and religion, governments separate the state from religion. Laws are designed to allow people to act according to their beliefs. The benefits that a government bestows on married couples are a part of law.
Marriage, for social purposes, is a civil and religious event. In some ceremonies, the two are celebrated at once, but couples must always undergo a civil marriage in order for the marriage to be considered legal. Religious wedding ceremonies unite the couple in the eyes of that religion's deity.
In legalizing gay marriage states and countries are establishing laws that allow gay civil marriages. It is up to each church to decide whether or not gay unions are acceptable within their doctrine, and establish rites.
People talk about marriage is for procreation of children. Well, then marriage licenses should only be given to fertile couples, and those who are paralyzed, or women who have gone through menopause may not be married because they cannot have children.
Imagine being told you cannot be with the person you love. Being judged daily based on your relationship. Being told that you are a sinner because you were born to be attracted to another man or another woman. If you believe in the Lord then you believe that God made all people they way they are. God loves all people. Everyone. Are you so perfect that you do not sin? If you see gay marriage as a sin yet you turn around and cuss, find yourself jealous of others then have you, yourself not sinned. And then there is the judgement that is being passed. When you pass judgement on others you have sinned. The Lord says "Do not judge others, or you too will be judged" Matthew 7:1. If you believe in the Lord as your savior then you also know that he says, "There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you - who are you to judge your neighbor" James 4:12.

I would like to say I know everyone has their own opinions and this one is just mine. This post is not meant to force my opinions on others but just to express them out loud so they do not eat me up inside. I respect every body's opinion and I understand we all have our own beliefs. I do apologize if this has offended anyone but thanks for letting me rant.
