I feel my life lately, well always, have been consumed with entertainment so I thought I would share in my fun with you - Or myself in case this doesn't get read!
I have read/listened to several books lately but I have not really mentioned them. Two of them I probably should be ashamed that I even read them but they were hilarious. These books I speak of are 1) My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One Night Stands and 2) Are you there Vodka? It's me, Chelsea. Both books written by the comedian, Chelsea Handler. Again, I restate, I should probably be ashamed that I read these because they are very vulgar and not too "lady like" but, at the same time, they are hilarious! If you don't mind just all out crazy books and you love a good laugh, I recommend picking these up one day. The second book, about Vodka, I actually listened to on my IPod. Chelsea read the book herself and I think that made it 10x's more hilarious to hear the stories from her directly. Again, very amusing but probably very sinful.
Recently I also listened to Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks on a road trip to Longview. I thought this was a very good book. I am usually not one to read books like this but I did enjoy it very much. I thought it was sad, I definitely cried but I would recommend it for a read. After reading it I decided to try the movie out. Yeah, not so much a fan. I though the book was a million times better (isn't that always the case). Maybe if somebody sees the movie but does not read the book it will be enjoyable but I was bored and very much wanted to turn the movie off!
Currently I am reading for the second time, Angels & Demons by Dan Brown. Tom Hanks will be playing in this prequel soon to The Davinci Code so I wanted to refresh my memory on what happened in the book. If you didn't like The Davinci Code because you felt it was satanic or all the other things people say, I recommend Angels & Demons instead. This book is very good but also very easy to tell that it is Fiction. It doesn't rival your beliefs about God or the Church and is all in all very interesting. Also, I am now reading The Nanny Diaries. I saw this movie recently for the first time and I thought it was cute so I decided to go a head and give the book a whirl to add a little bit of "chick lit" into my life once again. I am about 150 pages into the story and so far I am enjoying the experience. It is very easy going, fast read that does not require a lot of thought. Every now and then I always enjoy something fun and light hearted. On top of that I also just started The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Again, I have seen the movie, thought it was a cute girly film and in my thinking that books are always better than the movies, I decided to read the book! Again, so far it isn't really taking much thought to process what this book is saying but I am still enjoying the lightness of it all. I must say though, I was too ashamed to actually purchase them in a store - I made myself order them offline from Barnes & Nobles. Shameful and sad I know.
Now for movies we have seen - Bret and I over the weekend watched the comedy, Zach and Miri make a Porno. Hilarious! Yes it sounds horrible and again, sinful, but it really was very funny. If you are looking for a comedy (not for a family movie night by any means) this would be one to rent. Recently we watched Changeling with Angelina Jolie and that was pretty good. I thought it was very sad and I cried a lot but it was still good. A little different more artistic type of movie but a good one to rent. As previously mentioned, I watched Nights in Rodanthe and The Nanny Diaries (see above for reviews). Last movie we saw in the theaters was Taken and it was excellent! If you have not seen that movie yet, stop what you are doing and GO! Other than that I cannot really think of anything, movie wise, that we have seen. We are constantly getting movies in the mail from Blockbuster though. Next in our Queue is Gettysburg, for Bret, Role Models, Miracle at St. Anna, Australia and then 20 others - We like movies!
Television - It is so sad how much I like TV. I just love crawling into my big chair, grabbing a blanket and flipping through shows! I don't know how I could talk about TV without mentioning American Idol! (I refuse to call it "AI," I think that is stupid) Adam Lambert is fantastic, amazing and wonderful and if he gets kicked off anytime soon I am boycotting the rest of the season. I like the Danny guy as well. Not as much as Adam but I still think he is entertaining. Oh, and Anoop. I think he just looks really friendly, he needs to get his act together so he can stick around a little longer. As for girls (I don't know names) I like the blond with the big tattooed sleeve and then the 16 year old with the bright red/pink hair. I think they are both fun although the blond (and Anoop) almost went home last night. That was sad. Then there is America's Next Top Model. Season 12 just started and as of now I like London and Fo. I think they are cute. London is from Arlington so of course I am going to go for the Texas girl. Poor Bret, I really am in love with this show and right now on the Oxygen channel, every Sunday they have all day marathons of one of the seasons so it is very tempting for me to crawl into bed (because I am exiled from the living room when I choose to watch ANTM) and spend all day obsessing over models and just knowing that I could pose 10x's better than they could! I almost filled out an application online for Season 13 but I didn't have enough time to make a video and get it in. Season 13 is for people 5'7" and under - Since I am 5'1" I would totally have a chance!! (Now, if only I could track down Heidi Klum and apply her looks to me! HA!) Another show Bret and I are getting into right now is this new series, Lie to Me. If you haven't seen this show I suggest watching at least one episode. They don't play off of each other so you can miss one and be fine. But it is about this company who makes a living reading peoples facial expressions and movements. Based on each little thing somebody does they can tell if they are lying or not. It is really interesting. The writers are good about throwing in pictures of people we know (clinton, obama, celebs) to make their point about different gestures. Pretty fascinating. Then of course on my DVR in the bedroom I also have Regis and Kelly taping at all times because I am in love with Kelly Ripa as well as Without a Trace. Then every morning my ritual consists of watching Texas Today (news) from 6:45 - 7:00 and then my beloved Today Show from 7:00 until the time I leave!
There you have it - those are the things that have been entertaining me lately! Throw working on in there and you have my entire weeks worth of activities! If you have your own movies, books or shows that you think are fabulous let me know. I am always looking for something new!
