twenty five things

Well, I have found myself bored again and while debating between shopping online or blogging, I have decided to write a new entry - Save my husband some $$! I was recently "tagged" for the twenty-five things so I am going to attempt to do this. In case you've been under a rock, this "25 things" has been circulating around Facebook and in people's blogs. So, I am going to attempt to come up with 25 things people may, or may not, know about me.

1. My name is Mary Katherine. Everyone that I know, except for a small handful of friends, calls me "Katie" so there are not too many people who know anything different. I was named "Mary" after my mom's mom and then "Katherine" came about because Daddy told Mom he didn't care what she named me, he was going to call me Katie so to pick something that fit.

2. I hate leftovers. This is just a pure and simple fact. There is really only one thing I like to eat multiple times and that is my mother's chicken pot pie. Other than that, there is no need to waste Tupperware saving food for me!

3. I have a "filing cabinet bruise." There is a small black filing cabinet on one side of my desk and it never fails, every time I get up to go some where I run into the corner. This results in a very ugly bruise on the outside of my right thigh, right about my knee. In fact, I have this bruise at this exact moment. I have decided it is permanent. Maybe one day if I leave this company it will finally go away but I am sure I will just find something else to run into.

4. My husband calls me "Chicken Wing." This has nothing to do with my liking chicken wings, in fact, I don't really care for them too much. This started with one day I tried to do the whole "What's up chicken butt?" thing with Bret and he had not heard this expression before. So, I went on to explain he was suppose to say, "Not a think chicken wing." This started the joy of me being "chicken wing." But I lucked out because his name is Chicken Butt!

5. I am convinced I will have very bad arthritis when I get older. I actually feel like I already have arthritis in my right ankle but that is self diagnosed of course. But, from dancing for as long as I did, every joint in my body pops and cricks and I know, thanks to that, I probably will not be able to move around too well as an older person. Oh the fun I have to look forward to!

6. I only like grape skittles and grape jolly ranchers. In general, I do not like skittles or jolly ranchers but if you give me just the grape ones, I will eat them up!

7. I have several (silly) things that I am deathly afraid of. A) Driving under bridges while a car is driving over. I am very afraid the car is going to come over the edge and land on top of me. I tense up and get very nervous going under bridges in this case especially if there is a large truck going over. B) I will run away screaming like a little girl if a grasshopper comes near me. Completely and totally afraid and I am not ashamed. C) I am not afraid of heights except for looking up. If I am up someplace high where normal people would say "don't look down," my first reaction is "DON'T LOOK UP!" My knees will start to shake and I will start wobbling and I think I will fall over. Not cool.

8. I love English/British History and Literature. I am not 100% sure what it is about them but any books, articles, museums, etc revolving around English and British anything almost, I am completely drawn to. Everything just fascinates me!

9. I prefer gas station cappuccino to fancy coffee shops. I don't know what it is but gas station cappuccino just makes me completely happy. I would gladly take that over going to Starbucks or any other coffee house.

10. My husband thinks I am a light Nazi. This could be a little true and I don't know if I got this from my mom or what but I do not like leaving lights on in rooms when they are not in use. The lights that always bother me the most are bathroom lights and closet lights. I just do not understand the point of leaving them on when everybody is in the living room!

11. I am addicted to the news. I check MSNBC, KBTX, CNN (sometimes) and Yahoo on a religious basis. I am probably on MSNBC at least three to four times a day at work just to make sure I haven't missed anything and then I probably get on the computer and read the news at home once more and then on my blackberry in bed at night when I have turned out the lights and have said I am going to bed. It is a full blown addiction. "Hi my name is Katie and I am a news-aholic"

12. I hate my hair. I have always hated my hair, for as long as I can remember. It is so fine that it tangles easily and it can easily look dirty even if it isn't and that drives me crazy. I want hair like Mrs. Diane Summers. Who can go two days without washing it and it still looks beautifully perfect. Ugh.

13. I believe my wedding is and will forever be the best wedding I have ever been to. There is no need to explain this - I am just in love with my wedding and the entire Mexico trip.

14. I love making lists and taking notes. This is something I have always enjoyed doing. In fact, one of my favorite parts of going to class in college was getting to listen take notes during lectures. Even if teachers had PowerPoint's we printed off and took with us, I would always write a million and ten additional notes all over the page. Then there are my lists. I make lists for everything all over the place. Throughout the course of a day at work I probably have 5-8 different lists going on on all sorts of different papers (post-it notes sizes small, medium and large, back of a business card, my calendar and large note pads). I just love lists!

15. I adore my parents. This is something that I feel that I do not always show and that scares me. If you were my friend growing up you probably witnessed how rude I was to my mother at very difficult times and I know I did not look like I adored her, but I do, and I always will. There was a time this week in fact that I was having a very hard day and I am thankful I was able to pick up the phone and call her. And then there is my father. My dad has always been my source of reality and I am very blessed to have such a power house of a man in my life. I have never been afraid to talk to him about anything, no matter how much trouble I was in or how much I knew he would be upset with me. Both of my parents really are such a wonderful gift.

16. If I could cover all my walls in nothing but pictures, I would. I honestly and truly mean this with all my heart. I love pictures so much, even if they aren't even people that I know! If they are just beautiful, well taken pictures then I love them and I would put them all over my house, covering every inch of wall space. I would like to see Bret's face if he came home one day and found that I had done just that!

17. A spin off on my pictures fetish would be, I love MSNBC's "Week in Pictures." If this is something you have never done, check it out. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3842331/ You get to see the pictures that explain the past week and events that have happened and then you get to vote for one at the end. I love this. A lot of times I will send them to Bret too to look at because he enjoys the pictures as well.

18. I do not like pizza. A lot of people know this about me but it never fails, I tell somebody I don't like pizza and they will look at me like I am crazy. Now, I do go through phases where I really WANT pizza and at that point normally the people drop what they are doing and get me pizza because it is such a rare occasion. And then, if I DO want pizza, it is CiCi's and I have to have thousand island dressing to dip my pizza in. Not ranch, not ketchup... Thousand Island is the way to go. If I am going to get even more picky, I would prefer Canadian bacon and pineapple pizza or the spinach pizza. Again, from CiCi's. If those two aren't there well you might as well take me back home and I will warm up some spaghettio's.

19. I love my husband. I am praying everyone knows this about me but I feel that he deserves his own number on my list. He is a wonderful, caring, silly man and he makes me happy for a million and one reasons. I love him.

20. I would really like to adopt a child one day. I think adopting children is such a wonderful thing. It is kind of odd because I don't really want children, not right now at least, but I would love to adopt. There are so many kinds in this world that need a good family and I think being able to give a child a family when he did not have one would be such a rewarding feeling. The whole adoption thing just really touches me and I honest to goodness feel that I have a "calling," so to say, to adopt.

21. I still love to dance every chance I get. One of my favorite places to be is some place loud with a lot of fun music so I can dance. I do not care if I am the only one dancing, by george, I will dance!

22. I believe books on tape are miraculous. I think cooks on tape are one of technologies best gifts to the world. Nothing in the world makes driving go faster or a workout hurt less then when listening to a book on tape!

23. I am a super speedy texter. I consider this a gift really. I have even sent text messages for other people because they are too slow. What can I say? I grew up in the age of texting!

24. I hate driving. Bret drives us everywhere. I avoid driving as much as possible - And if there is a trip involved, I would hands down prefer to fly than drive. I do not like car rides.

25. All-in-all, at the end of everyday, I am in love with my life.
