getting closer to having a home!

Happy Monday you guys!!

Sorry I have been a little MIA lately.  Moving + School has my brain and energy levels shot to pieces.  No excuse though, I know.  So, kind of what has been going on around here is a LOT of working on the house.

Decorated House

Needless to say, our evenings have been work, work, work and our days have been work, work, school!  No complaints though, I am very happy!  For those of you who have moved, was it a depressing process for any of you guys?  I had a really hard time for about two weeks in there with being depressed to leave the apartment.  Our apartment was the first place Bret and I lived as a married couple.  We were there for about 2 years and we had a lot of fun memories there.  Packing up everything and leaving just broke my heart.  I loved our apartment.  That weekend we moved I actually cried about three times because I was sad.  I felt so horrible about that too.  Here I am, moving into my first house with my husband and I am ruining the entire experience by being sad. I don't know.  It was silly but I just couldn't help it.  BUT, after this past weekend I am feeling much, MUCH better.  My parents came down and with their help, Bret and I were able to start hanging things on the walls and making the house feel more like an actual home.  Cozy and comfortable and full of our style!

What we accomplished this weekend:
great garage sale finds
newly bought and installed fans
decorating of some key areas
(living room, entry way, kitchen, bathrooms)
first official game of Mexican Train played in new house
revamping of potted plants

And now for a new week to begin.  Bret leaves for NJ today for work so I will be spending my first night alone in house this week.  Not going to lie... I am a little nervous.  I am not 100% use to all the noises our house makes and even now I catch myself looking around corners and behind my back.  So yeah, this should be interesting.  But, while I am not freaking out, I will be hanging more pictures and continuing my morning runs with my neighbor and dear friend, Jennifer! Yay!  Between the house, work, school, running, and life, surely I can keep myself busy to not even have time to be a little freaked out that there is a tapping sound I cannot find!  THEN, Bret will be home and then this weekend our friends Magan and Steven will be in town for the weekend.  I've got enough to keep my brain thinking happy thoughts!

And now for some pictures so you all can see what I have been up to.  Again, it is still a work in progress but we are getting there!

Living Room
Mom and I hung the stuff over the couch this weekend.  I am really loving the randomness + the order of it all.  As you can see on the left, above the window, I need a curtain rod and curtains to complete that little space.

Living Room (cont'd)
If you were sitting on the couch, this is what you would see.  We got the pictures hung above the T.V. and this week I will get my towers decorated with all my little books, pictures, and knick-knacks that men love so much! Ha!

Entry Way
I painted our entry way a darker brown then our living room and I am LOVING the color.  I told Bret I would paint every surface of our house that color - THAT is how much I am in love with it!  Anyways, got that painted and got a few little things in there for now.  Mom bought us those brown and green pillows from TJMaxx and I love how they look on the window seat and with that dark brown!

Kitchen and Eating Area
Our kitchen and eating area is still coming together.  I haven't decided if I want to hang anything above our cabinets in the kitchen or not but I feel like it would add a lot to the walls if I did.  There isn't a shelf or a lip up there so I can't have things on top like I did at the apartment so do you guys have any suggestions?

The light brown bookshelf piece was one of my garage sale finds from the weekend (ikea shelf for $25. yes please).  I have a lot of my fiestaware pieces displayed on there along with some pictures and some other odds and ends.  I couldn't figure out how to make all the colors pop but then I came up with a DIY project.  Our old guest bathroom was done in bright colors and it had bright towels that went along with the curtain.  Well I got some empty frames, got those towels, cut them up, attached them to the back of the frames and wah-lah! Colorful backdrops for my colorful china! (they are located on the first and third shelves if you are trying to figure out what I am talking about).

Our table is still the same.  Kind of a catch-all at the moment for our stuff when we are working around the house.  We did have the curtains cleaned and we got them back up but I don't think I like them.  They take away from those windows in my opinion.  So, I maybe looking for some short & cute valances to put over there instead.

Guest W.C.
I owe the guest bathroom to my mother 100%. She picked out and coordinated everything for in here and I love the way it all turned out.  I think my MATHIS sign I made looks great in there and I am super happy with how it all came together

Master W.C.
Not really the best pictures but I bought a new shower curtain (that I love) and we installed the towel bar and stuff.  I need to hang that picture that is just hanging out over there and I will probably do a few other things as well.

Random little Pieces
Don't you love what I have done with our office and workout rooms?! They look fabulous, yes?
Those are the new fans that we bought for the three guest rooms and I am LOVING them way more than the HORRIBLE gold and brown ones that were up.  Yuck.

Anyways, that's where the house stands for now!!
