While I know that I am not Catholic, I do like to participate in Lent every year. I feel it is always nice to give up something for God so I do not see the harm. This year however, I am doing full blow lent. Usually I just give up something from Ash Wednesday to Good Friday but this year I will also not be eating meat on Ash Wednesday, every Friday and then of course on Good Friday. This year I am giving up french fries (AH!) which is going to be a challenge. I would say I am giving up potatoes but that seems dangerous in case I eat something that I don't realize has potatoes in the ingredients. But, if I go out to eat and don't order french fries, I do not think it is right of me to get a baked potato or mashed potatoes in their place. So really I am giving up potatoes but I am just afraid to say that, previous justification applies. I think it will be a very interesting challenge and I am looking forward to seeing how well I do!
If there is anyone else out there participating in Lent this year I would be interested to hear what you are giving up - I always find it neat the different things people find hard to let go of for a bit. Last year I gave up cokes, the year before I gave up beef and the year before that I couldn't watch any Sex and the City. Fun times, fun times!
